The people of Irian Jaya have very little contact with the outside world; their way of life has hardly been touched by external influence. Deeply spiritual, they believe in the intricate bond between humans and nature, for they know survival depends on this relationship. Sarna carves by hand this extraordinarily detailed mask from albesia wood, accentuating its beauty with acrylic paints.
